Can I convert a Quicken file to QuickBooks? Find Complete Guide.

Convert your Quicken data to QuickBooks Desktop and keep your business growing. There are two simple ways to begin the conversion process: directly to QuickBooks Desktop or via the Quicken converter. This is how.

When is it appropriate to use Quicken Converter?

You must use the Quicken Converter only if you are migrating from a previous version of Quicken that is NOT a parallel version of your QuickBooks Desktop (e.g., Quicken 2018 to QuickBooks Pro, Premier, or Enterprise 2020).

If you have a version of Quicken that is a parallel version of QuickBooks Desktop, you can bypass the Quicken Converter and convert directly to QuickBooks using the Conversion Utility (e.g., Quicken 2019 to QuickBooks Pro, Premier, or Enterprise 2019).

Quicken on the Mac: Quicken Converter and QuickBooks' Conversion Utility are unable to convert Quicken to Mac data files. If you are using Quicken for Mac, you must first convert the data file to Quicken for Windows or create a new QuickBooks company file.

  • Select Next after launching the downloaded Quicken Converter.
  • Next, select I accept the terms of the license agreement.
  • To begin the Quicken Converter installation, click Next, then Install.
  • Select Quicken Converter Launch, and then Finish.
  • Select I'm transferring data from Quicken for Windows, followed by Get Started.
  • Choose Open a data file on this computer, followed by file.
  • Select OK after browsing to and selecting your Quicken file (.QDF) file.

Once your file has been upgraded to a compatible version of Quicken, you can begin converting using QuickBooks' Conversion Utility.

Look for it. QDF files, not.QFX files.

While the tool claims to create a.QFX file (which can not be used for conversion), it actually creates a.QDF file. This is the file to convert, not. XFX Locate the upgraded.QDF file in the same location as your original Quicken file, in a folder named Q18Files or Q17Files. Additionally, the.QDF file has the same name as the original Quicken file.

Utilize the Conversion Tool

  • Convert your Quicken file using QuickBooks Desktop's Conversion Utility.
  • To do so, navigate to File > Utilities > Convert and choose From Quicken.
  • Select the Quicken file (.QDF) for conversion.

The remainder of the conversion will be guided by the Conversion Utility.

To learn more about the Conversion Utility, press F1 on your QuickBooks Desktop and type "convert from Quicken" in the Help window.
